Google caffeine will be live “soon” according to Google.

We appreciate all the feedback from people who searched on our Caffeine sandbox. Based on the success we’ve seen, we believe Caffeine is ready for a larger audience. Soon we will activate Caffeine more widely, beginning with one data center. This sandbox is no longer necessary and has been retired, but we appreciate the testing and positive input that webmasters and publishers have given. Google

This might be a bit (or a big) shake up for a lot of (or some) seo and website owners as well. It was interesting to see the developer preview of Caffeine while it was available and no doubt some will be happy with the changes and some will not be.

Shout out to SEJ for spotting it :)

Anyway don’t be surprised to see your sites rankings dance around a while – that’s Caffeine coming

Indeed.

What is Google Caffiene? Well, it’s supposed to be a faster more improved version of how Google works (under the hood) not necessecarily a new immediate way of ranking sites according to some sources – though in the analysis I completed some websites did seem to have improved/dropped rankings in SERPS (but this might have been because of a number of factors).

For the last several months, a large team of Googlers has been working on a secret project: a next-generation architecture for Google’s web search. It’s the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions. The new infrastructure sits “under the hood” of Google’s search engine, which means that most users won’t notice a difference in search results. But web developers and power searchers might notice a few differences, so we’re opening up a web developer preview to collect feedback.

As a “web developers and power searcher” I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of changes coming in the next few months when it’s confirmed live. Find out more here.

Update – Matt Cutts says -

I know that webmasters can get anxious around this time of year, so I wanted to reassure site owners that the full Caffeine roll out will happen after the holidays (I don’t think you’ll see Caffeine on multiple data centers before January)
