Looks like the Google API (which allows you to query the search engine up to 1000 times in a day to determine where you rank for specific keywords) is, well, screwing the results at the Digital Point Tool and Web Position Gold.

Reports are on the net the tool is not showing any data, and it looks like Webposition Gold might be hit too, according to Webmasterworld.

Has anyone else noticed that after years of threatening it appears that Google has now blocked WP Gold from reporting rankings through their tool? We called the WP support line and they said they are waiting for Google to ‘do’ something and have NO ETA has to when it will be fixed.

Is Google dumping API support.

We don’t really use the keyword tool any more, but I am hearing reports that it, and some other API based website rank checkers are not showing results. We actually run most of ranking reports by hand when clients require a report or we are tracking a specific term. Our seo services are measured by traffic, number of leads and sales. We don’t talk utter crap like ” 1,000,000 No1s for clients” as some crap seo companies do so the Digital Point Keyword Tracker tool not showing any results is no biggie for us.

The DP Keyword Tool is not 100% accurate – but it can give you an insight into rankings in some verticals. It runs via an API key, but Google doesn’t issue these any more. I hear the API deliberately doesn’t show the final results you see in serps – more filters are added before, hence why you see difference in the actual live serps. I hear the tool is accurate, just the data Google gives it, is not.

Not like Google to only give you a tool that shows half the picture, is it? :)

The keyword tracker tool is of use. If you can get a Google API key off someone, it’s worth a spin.

Maybe I am just being nostalgic.

Do you use DP Rank Checker and Keyword Tool or Webposition Gold (which I have not)?

Keep in mind of course, the latter can be frowned upon by Google – why I am not linking to it. Not sure if the DP Forum Tool is against Google TOS.

Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Goldâ„¢ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google. Webmaster Guidelines.

Which tool do you use to check rankings in Google, Yahoo and MSN?
