Webposition Gold & Digital Point Keyword Tool Problems
Blurb by Shaun Anderson (Hobo) -Looks like the Google API (which allows you to query the search engine up to 1000 times in a day to determine where you rank for specific keywords) is, well, screwing the results at the Digital Point Tool and Web Position Gold.
Reports are on the net the tool is not showing any data, and it looks like Webposition Gold might be hit too, according to Webmasterworld.
Has anyone else noticed that after years of threatening it appears that Google has now blocked WP Gold from reporting rankings through their tool? We called the WP support line and they said they are waiting for Google to ‘do’ something and have NO ETA has to when it will be fixed.
Is Google dumping API support.
We don’t really use the keyword tool any more, but I am hearing reports that it, and some other API based website rank checkers are not showing results. We actually run most of ranking reports by hand when clients require a report or we are tracking a specific term. Our seo services are measured by traffic, number of leads and sales. We don’t talk utter crap like ” 1,000,000 No1s for clients” as some crap seo companies do so the Digital Point Keyword Tracker tool not showing any results is no biggie for us.
The DP Keyword Tool is not 100% accurate – but it can give you an insight into rankings in some verticals. It runs via an API key, but Google doesn’t issue these any more. I hear the API deliberately doesn’t show the final results you see in serps – more filters are added before, hence why you see difference in the actual live serps. I hear the tool is accurate, just the data Google gives it, is not.
Not like Google to only give you a tool that shows half the picture, is it?
The keyword tracker tool is of use. If you can get a Google API key off someone, it’s worth a spin.
Maybe I am just being nostalgic.
Do you use DP Rank Checker and Keyword Tool or Webposition Gold (which I have not)?
Keep in mind of course, the latter can be frowned upon by Google – why I am not linking to it. Not sure if the DP Forum Tool is against Google TOS.
Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Goldâ„¢ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google. Webmaster Guidelines.
Which tool do you use to check rankings in Google, Yahoo and MSN?
We've recently updated our comments policy and increased the number of comments a visitor has to make to get seo friendly links in comment signatures to reward long term readers and make it a bit harder for dofollow spammers ;) - I told you dofollow spamming wasn't a long term strategy....

I used to use the DP keyword tool but then moved to checking by hand. It was also long before Google webmaster tools.
Google are more than likely continuing on their path to world domination by reducing all other tools to jibbering wrecks or simply slapping a penalty on them.. (reminds oneself of the whole paid links fiasco)… (and the no-follow fiasco)… (and the REPORT a website fiasco)
TBH half the reason Google remains sucessful isn’t for it’s search as much as it is for the tools that they create… they keep the nerds busy, much like Firefox is doing with it’s browser.
I used DP’s keyword tool, up until recently. I’ve moved on to use a Firefox plugin called rank checker from SEOBook. So far I’ve been mostly impressed with the result.
Here’s the link: http://tools.seobook.com/firefox/rank-checker/
Yup I have this too.
I use Rank Tracker, although it does provide some very weird results.
Perhaps the name is mis-spelt and that R should be a W?
It looks as if Rank Checker is now being blocked by Google as well!
I was using Web position Gold… But it is completely useless now. It returns nothing for Google.
The Rank Checker tool in SEO Toolbook seems to be working. I am running it right now.
