FOR LINK BUILDERS:
I’ve known Garrett French for quite a while now – he interviewed ME twice for Search Engine Land – and since then he’s been tearing up the link building space with regular posts from the Ontolo link building blog…
Garrett is a proper old-school geek link builder – if you are into link building and tools – you should definitely drop by his blog.
He’s also the co-creator of the Ontolo Link Building Toolset, which promises to make link building “ridiculously easy…” The V2 of his tool launches today and he answered a few questions I had about it via email.
Tell me what your link building tool does?
Garrett: Sure Shaun, and thanks for having me on your blog today. So our tool discovers, crawls and evaluates thousands of link prospects based on your SEO Keywords and the kinds of link prospects you’re targeting… So if you’re looking to build links through donations we’re not going to focus on getting lots of guest post opportunities in your custom data set.
Ok nice… so each person has their own custom data set of prospects?
Garrett: That’s right – we’re not downloading the internet, just the parts of it that matter for your unique link building projects. In fact this is one of the things that sets us apart from other tools – we look beyond the “competitor backlink graph” for link prospects. And every custom data set is keyword searchable, and filtered through 26 different searchable reports. For example, here’s a video of Ben Wills, Ontolo’s CEO, demonstrating the Donations prospect report search: As you can see from that video… we’re making link building “ridiculously easy” ;) And there are 25 more searchable reports like that one.
So how does this tool help beyond finding link prospects?
Garrett: So one thing in particular is that we’re piping in MozRank scores for URLs and hostnames as well as the old standby PageRank. This helps in deciding which sites to approach first. Secondly we gather up all the contact info we can find about each link prospect, including email addresses, contact form pages, Twitter addresses and Facebook accounts. This is the part that has really knocked socks off lately – and for good reason… You can sort your results based on email addresses and have some INSTANT prospects for outreach.
What are the next steps for interested parties?
Garrett: Well I’d recommend taking a peek at our demos – that will really help you learn a bit more about the toolset and whether it’s what you’re looking for. If it sounds right for you, check the time – we’re not officially offering seats until 12pm EST :) You can get on our announcement list for early access – we’re capping access to 250 seats so we can focus on quality and customer service.
Sounds good Garrett – I will check out those demos today.
Garrett: Cheers Shaun, thanks for your time today!

Disclaimer. None. I have no association with Garrett other than he’s a friend I respect in the same industry.
