Our Advertising Spend To Date Since April 2006 - ZERO
Posted by Shaun AndersonIf you’ve visited the Hobo site before (or any of our sister sites and personal blogs) you’ll be aware just how busy we are. In over a year and a half, we’ve not lost one client to our knowledge, in either of our website design and seo divisions. And we continually add new clients to our stable.
We’re now in the very fortunate position where we can now choose the clients we work for.
Our advertising spend, since April 2006, is ZERO. We’ve not spent one penny on traditional advertising. 100% of our business comes from free advertising in Google (that’s what SEO is, in effect), referrals from satisfied customers and seminars we’ve been invited to as “expert” guest speakers. We don’t cold call, don’t spam your email, we don’t advertise our search engine optimization services in Google Adwords (LOL).
We let you find us!
We have been voted one of the best seo companies in Scotland for the last 4 or 5 months by our peers, built sites for the NHS and colleges, charities and national businesses. We came runners up recently in the Chamber of Commerce Bees Knees Awards for Best Emerging Business. We work for personal injury solicitors, loan brokers, online age verification agencies and UK immigration consultants. In the last year in fact, we’ve worked with clients in may industries, too numerous to mention here, big and small.
For a small company like us, it’s a steep learning curve, to manage a burgeoning client list while tentatively expanding the firm strengthening the team that’s built the company in the first place. We count ourselves lucky to have the sort of international (and local companies here in Scotland) as customers who understand what we are trying to achieve here, for our business and theirs.
We pride ourselves on ethical and transparent business practices and long term client relationships with a keen focus on ROI. Our clients know we work hard, and we work honestly. We’re inexperienced in a lot of areas in business, we’re always trying to learn from our mistakes, and we’re brave enough to at all times continue to be creative and innovative.
It’s a fact. Every day we start with the same enthusiasm and willingness to succeed and make a better website for our customers. We just wish there was more time in the day!
If your one of the many companies (home and abroad) who have been frankly screaming out for us to work with you, consider this post an apology. We don’t have a sales team. Our business isn’t just sales oriented (don’t tell my MD) We’re busy working on customers sites. This is our priority. To be up there with the best. To make client sites the best. We’re a creative agency for %^&* sake.
It takes us some time to get back to people who have enquired about working with us at the moment, too long in our opinion. But if you’re lucky enough to work with us, you’ll understand our commitment, and will bear with us while you wait to here back from us.
Guaranteed. It will be worth it.

Hi, Shaun. I love this post and we can same the thing at Big Oak SEO. It just goes to show, great people at a great company do rise to the top and not just in the search results. Keep up the fantastic work.
Oh, and I can sympathize with the lack of a sales team. We have a small staff of 6 with interns and no sales staff either which makes it difficult to keep up with the leads that come in.
I may make a similar post on our blog if it is okay with you.

Thats great. Zero advertising, I guess that speaks for the power of SEO.
