* Update by Shaun; So, FIFA 09 is out and its on the office xbox. With that, and the fact I’m romping the current Pro Evolution soccer league for my second title, Martin and the boys thinks its time for a change to another game I am not the dominant force in.
——– End
Here we have the overview of this Fridays matches played on the X Box Friday Football League. However, it has to be said, it was a pretty slow week. Although it did still throw up one or two surprises.Yet, before we begin, here is a quick reminder of who was playing as what team.
- Holland: Jim Harkins
- Mexico: Martin Gardner
- Argentina: Shaun Anderson (Whom has been picked to play this team for the third time in succession. In a twist of probability that Stephen Hawking could not explain).
- France: Chris Ballantyne
- Brazil: Rodger Patterson
- Germany: Michael Bonnar
- Italy: Jack Osborne (the new boy)
- Czech Republic: Robert McKenzie (Yours truly)
- Portugal: Alan Muir
- England: Simon Muir
- Spain: Scott Muir
Then, now we know who everybody is,the question remains ,how did they do?
This weeks fixtures began with an entertaining, but ultimately goal less, game between Jacks Italy and your humble writer. (Playing as The Czech Republic). We Czechs also had a draw with Holland, which brought an end to their impressive little winning streak. (Of which we shall speak of later). However, we also suffered a defeat to the Spanish, whom finally secured their first win. (Of which we shall never speak of again.)
However, in the interests of journalistic integrity, (to say nothing of the fact that, your humble blogger doesn’t wish to see his humble bollocks booted) I should add that they have managed to double their number of wins,( in other words: they have won two.Yet, hey, its still one more than yours truly) Putting the icing on the cake of a very fine performance.
The Germans also had a good day, when, as predicted, they finally found their stride.
The Italians and The Mexicans both played with great skill.
There was also a great days play by The French. Whom fought towards a couple of wins.
The Brazilians, unfortunately, are still fighting to find their feet. A few dodgy defensive detours didnt do them any damn favours, though, darn it.
Begrudging, you have to admit that the Argentines played very well, as much as it pains me to say it. (Just joking. Although, we are still waiting for somebody to rise up like Braveheart and put him in his place.
While we are holding on in anticipation for that glorious day, here’s how everybody did.
- Goal Of The Day – Portugal’s classic, like a Kirsten Dunst movie: Crazy/Beautiful.
- Game Of The Day – Portugal V Germany
- Player Of The Week -A couple of contenders, Jim? Shaun? Scott? (No, forget him). Michael?
- Most Improved -Jim- For Hollands penalty win which saw them, for a short time there, raise up to third. Michael, after Germany found their feet.
- Best Moan – I would have to say, (Damn journalistic integrity again) it may have been Yours Truly. Harping on abut how the Spanish beat me. Like it was a dog in a James Herbert book. (Fluke)
- Best Impression Of A Young Girl Crying – Chris suggested himself. No, check out the Czechs.
- Most Cynical Fouling -Holland had a man sent off. While Argentina were almost true to form. However, they still played very well, so we will give them a break. This time.
That’s it then. This weeks fixtures. If you want to know how everybody done, check out the table Then draw your own conclusions.
And, with that, your humble blogger will be blogging off. Until next time.

England are obviously suffering from having Greenock Morton’s Cappielow in charge!
Might have known ‘efficient’ Mick would have been Germany – couple of brain cells away from doin a goose step. And no doubt you were singing ‘Don’t cry For Me’ shauno? By the way, yer sneaks fit like a dream…..
