Personal ‘green’ energy in Scotland a reality with Gaia-Wind

Small Wind Turbines to reduce energy bills and offset carbon footprints

Danish-born Gaia-Wind today announced its launch in Scotland from the award winning Hillington Park Innovation Centre, Glasgow, to supply efficient and economical small wind turbines for domestic, farming, commercial and public sector use.

The personal wind turbines, which are designed to perfectly complement mainland Scotland’s moderate wind speed, greatly reduce energy bills and offset the carbon footprint of rural houses and farms back to zero.

With the UK Government aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 60 per cent by the year 2050, and several political parties announcing renewable energy manifesto’s, Gaia-Wind is an attractive product to the Scottish market, both economically and from the perspective of ‘battling climate change.’
World-leading renewable energy engineers have set up Gaia-Wind at Hillington Park Innovation Centre, Scotland’s leading incubator for innovative high-growth, start up companies, to drive forward the international expansion of the company, offering consumers and businesses in Scotland the ability to create an independent source of energy.
Scot McRae of Hillington Park Innovation Centre, said: “We are delighted to support a company of Gaia-Wind’s calibre here at the innovation centre. With a sound track record of 150 installations already across Europe and customers achieving real benefits and cost efficiencies, there is great promise for Gaia-Wind to see similar success in Scotland.”
Gaia-Wind small wind turbines have been developed according to ‘Danish design’ – the design basis for most large wind turbines. The only manufacturer of small wind turbines to achieve official Danish Government HB-standards, Gaia-Wind uses carefully-selected components to provide high quality, maximum reliability and low maintenance products for its customers.

The electricity from a Gaia-Wind turbine (typically 30,000 kWh per year) not only delivers clean electricity for everyday use, but the surplus of clean energy compensates for the carbon footprint created by heating, cars, air travel and other carbon emissions through the use of fuel-based energy.
Johnnie Andringa, managing director of Gaia-Wind, said: “Climate change and the effect of CO2 emissions on the environment is a global issue and one that consumers and businesses are increasingly keeping an eye on.

A single Gaia-Wind 11kW small wind turbine will bring the carbon footprint of a four-person household back to zero, which is impressive. Some customers even find their turbine produces more electricity than they can use and are selling in tens of thousands kWh’s of green energy back to the electricity board on an annual basis.”

“We are hugely excited about launching in Scotland and intend to become the leading supplier of competitively priced, high performance, small wind turbines in the country, “ he added.

The Gaia-Wind small turbine is connected to an electrical installation at the owner’s property when a grid connection is available, thereby enabling the electricity to be used directly by the owner. Any surplus can then be sold on to the electricity board. To provide clean electricity to remote installations without a public grid, customers can use stand-alone wind turbines that can work in parallel with a diesel generator or a battery bank.

Electricity from the wind turbine can also be used for direct heating purposes. And energy produced by the turbine, but not used on site, can be directed back to hot water tanks, storage heaters or under-floor heating, instead of being sold back to the electricity board.

Gaia-Wind also considers the impact of the installation of wind turbines on their immediate environment so they can easily adapt into the surrounding countryside. They are mounted with reflection-free light grey blades, which match the sky and the clouds, have a slim design and extremely low noise output.
