Google Pagerank Update Sat 28 April 2007

Well it looks as though Google’s finally assigning Toolbar Page Rank to those new sites. As always our monitoring processes picked this up and we managed to get a look at the Google DCs before they have had a chance to finish the massive update which only takes place 4 times a year (on the visible toolbar, anyway) and which every SEO everywhere takes a note of.

The Google Toolbar PR (you know, the little green bar in your Google Toolbar on IE and Firefox) is not the be-all-and-end-all of seo, it’s just one of hundreds of factors Google is thought to use to determine the quality of your site and the quality of the links that link to your site and eventually where your site will rank in SERPS.

But everybody agrees. A very high PR is always better to have than a low PR for established sites. Many people think a high Google PR means your website gets spidered more often than a low site, for instance. To be honest, it’s a bit complicated to get into and we’d take a low PR site with hundreds of uniques per day over a high PR site with 10 visitors….Suffice to say we treat the award of PR as an indication we are creating pages and sites to good standards, and that we have managed to get client sites decent links. It’s a bit of vanity…: )
