Exporting Blog Subscribers And Commenters At Linkedin

I ended up playing about with Linkedin at the weekend and today after Sonya at The Baby Gurus slagged off my non-participation. I’ve been dabbling in Twitter but I did like Linkedin when I first opened an account to spam it take part in the community.

After playing about with it again it’s still a really good way to make a simple connection with likeminded profesionals.

  • I just exported my blog feed email subscribers using feedburner,
  • and then my blog commentators using Joost de Valk‘s marvelous WordPress plugin Export Users to a CSV file.
  • I have an apple mac so I then imported the files, via Email Extractor and exported to VCard format
  • and imported them into my Apple Address Book (putting them in groups or dragging them then to the desktop makes a nice clean file seperating which was which).
  • I then imported the VCard list into Linkedin and hit connect

…and so far (I just finished) every response has been excellent, and I’ve made a lot of connections in just a few days, and a few people told me what they thought about the blog etc. It’s nice to put a face behind some weird email addresses too, and it looks as though I have introduced quite a few people to linkedin as well which is cool.

I think a message sent directy in Linkedin is probably best… or should I have just emailed everybody, or blogged, like this?

Anyway done now and tanking Sonya for the time being:)

Thanks everbody that has connected with me at http://www.linkedin.com/in/shaunanderson1973

It seemed the obvious thing to do – connect with folk who have already connected with me through the blog. I will definitely be using it organise and keep track of my business contacts in future (tho I hear Facebook is pretty cool too).

If you enjoyed this post, please share :)

  1. Many thanks Shaun and welcome to Linked in officially. Its a shame when a midwife has to prompt an SEO geek to a bit of tech!

Linked in has given The Baby Gurus access to corporate links that may have taken months to find. It does take a little getting used too but I would say its worth while.

I am new to twitter/tweeting however i am following No 10 (yip Downing St) and Britney spears (yip the real one) updates with interest. I only have one twitter follower at the moment (thanks Shaun) ;)

    Glad to have helped!
