Did ‘Google Plus’ Just Become A ‘Must-Have’ with the advent of ‘Google Plus Search’?

Google+ just became unavoidably relevant – maybe even – a must-have marketing tool for your business:

Now here’s a different search, for cars. Again, I’m logged out, incognito-mode:

Is there anyone out there who still wants to say that being on Google+ doesn’t matter? Anyone? Because when being on Google+ means that you potentially can have your Google+ page leap to the top in those sidebar results, Google+ matters. It matters more than ever before. Danny Sullivan – Search Engine Land

This move by Google is not without criticism, of course, about Google pushing their own properties, over more relevant and useful pages on Facebook, for instance.

This Is Relevant?

Now let’s laugh. Here are the search results for Facebook:

Are you kidding me, Google? You’re going to suggest Mark Zuckerberg’s Google+ account as relevant? An account that he’s never posted at:

That screenshot alone should make it self-evident how wrong Google is in showing these type of suggestions. They aren’t necessarily the most relevant social accounts that should be shown.

They wouldn’t do that, would they? :)

Hi I think, That mark Zukerberg profile has made by someone, not a real one, though it’s FAKE, so i don’t think we should blame to google algo regarding this issue. and about cars, toyota is one of big company who manufacture cars, thats why google shows these results.. P.s Google is Quite Intelligent we should not make preception on it…

Oh man. Just when we were getting to grips with Twitter and LinkedIn, now we HAVE to get into Google+ (which we’ve been putting off for a while now). At this rate we won’t have any time to do any work. Sheesh. What’s the next, absolutely cannot-do-without-able social media platform? And the next?

  3. Positive Dan says:

That is pretty funny, the Zuckerberg G+ profile being a featured result. I just searched for my friend Jacob and once I’d typed “Ja” Jason Calacanis’ G+ popped up. I hadn’t really noticed that, glad you pointed that out. What’s up with the little blue person icon that sorta looks like a lego man? He’s to the left of some of the search results when I just searched my name.

Hi Shaun, Where you say “Are you kidding me, Google? You’re going to suggest Mark Zuckerberg’s Google+ account as relevant? An account that he’s never posted at:” is that necessarily true that he’s never posted at the account? Perhaps all his posts were private to his circles? Whether he is relevant is another matter.

  5. Joana Crawford says:

Google is not showing relevance on the sidebar. It´s just pure promotion of their network. With time two things can happen: Relevance will pop up on sidebar too, or Google will give up and show Twitter and Facebook results.

Yeah, I thought about making the big switch to Google+… but I haven’t even hopped on the twitter bandwagon yet. I’ll probably join up right as the next best thing is starting…

  7. Jon says:

I think Google+ is definitely a necessity now. But i think all that is necessary is doing the bare minimum to get your Google+ juices flowing. I still think the important, targeted social media hits come from Facebook and Twitter, not Google+.

Yes – but with Google forcing Google PLus down our throats – you can bet it will take off. I cant see Google winning against Facebook without this sort of agressions…. and even then, it still might not work. Why would anyone leave Facebook for Google+?

…people has different look on Google+; i have read many negative comments about so i’m kinda confused maybe i just have to use it myself.
