So after months of posting information on this blog that instantly appeared in the Google serps, it has transpired this week that this blog no longer seems capable of injecting fresh content directly into Google. I don’t normally publish sensational headlines but it is a very clear phenomenon I am witnessing. I don’t expect this post to appear but perhaps Google will (hopefully) embarrass me and prove me incorrect in my analysis…. :(

A post I made 16 hours ago, which by ping appeared in Technorati and Google Blog Search almost immediately, still hasn’t made it into the main Google Web Search.
Since the start of this week I noticed my posts weren’t appearing immediately – a few hours later in some cases. That’s a big change from minutes.
Now it seems it’s nearly a whole day later. It’s certainly not widespread as Tim Nash and Michael Dorausch confirmed all was well.
So by observation, Google seems to have placed a (I hope) a temporary penalty on this seo blog’s capability of publishing information directly into Google’s main index.
It happened to me – it can happen to you (and I see that perhaps Jeff at Search Engine People might be experiencing similar issues. Now to try and determine why…..

Sounds like a SEO = bad equation resulting in a penalty. What other reason is there?
In this case only it may be because Google was down for a few hours today. I noticed it midday and it didn’t come back up till about 3.45pm. Analytics was down too, as was feedburner.
Well it does make sense. If you own a blog you have to at least update it as often as possible with fresh content and whatnot. Not everyone can update their blog all of the time as often as they would like though. It’s just the tough way of Google. By the way, nice website. Definitely something happening here … can’t believe its just us Shaun. Maybe, like the Google -6 issue, its just an unintended consequence of other changes made. I’d sure like to hear Matt Cutt’s thoughts.
have had some very strange occurances with Google and the (blogger) blog recently. sometimes it’s minutes as you say, sometimes 22 hours, the post is topping out searches, then de-indexed for 5 days, then back again.. for a little while we were wondering if we’d been specially selected for attention but are putting it down to glitches in the matrix.. anyway hope your ability to vent live into the global newsfeed soon returns
Hi Shaun took me 1 hour to have it indexed. And TBH that was only after I submitted the post to Searchles.
Smells like a GG that is worth a further investigation. I’ll check it with my next post (I usually don’t monitor my blog stuff on the SERPs).

Back in a days the same thing happened with my blog after I didn’t post new entries for more than 2 weeks (vacations). Little later everything came to normal.
I had the same problem, but hadn’t posted for like two months so duh! Sucks though used to be lightening fast. I guess I learned my lesson for next time
Shaun – We’re still seeing virtually instant indexing here. I can say that the drag to Google Reader has been getting longer and longer.
I just had a post indexed in a couple of hours, a little slower than usual. Googles minty fresh indexing seems to have slowed down a little, but that’s about it. Wouldn’t be to worried or say it was a penalty of any kind.
That’s strange! I haven’t experienced it happened though in the past.

Shaun, thanks for the article. Are there news on the “fresh content penalty”, because one of my sites has been hit too .. ? I have searched the web to get more information on this topic and it seems that quite a few webmasters are experiencing the same problem but no one seems to have an explanation/solution for it ..
I’m experiencing the opposite problem to this. My blog only appears in the serps immediately ‘after’ i publish a new post. The very next day when i do a search for my main keyword my blog doesn’t appear and i held number one position for the past 4 years. I’m not worried though because nothing surprises me with Google anymore and i’m sure it’ll all settle down eventually.
