It’s Charles Darwin Day, on Google too. See the new logo?
I was reading Barry Schwartz’s comment at Search Engine Land about Google going with Darwin instead of Abraham Lincoln and wondering to myself how could anyone possibly even consider Abraham Lincoln in the same league as Charles Darwin, the man who thought up evolution, discovered our connection with the beasts and who led others to discover the very nature of our conection with the planet, the sea and it’s continents.
It is also Charles Darwin’s birthday and I guess Darwin, the father of evolution, is more important than one of the most important US Presidents of all time, Abraham Lincoln.
There is no contest between these two guys. One is a thought leading genius who stood against the establishment and the other is a guy who thought slavery was wrong (genius) and stopped Britain inserting it’s foot in the US’s arse in 1861.
I’d be frightened to find out :)
I would just like to ask, what creative person(s) is behind this original art?
Why’s it got to be one or the other? Really, Darwin is a more world-wide celebrity, whereas Lincoln is more U.S. specific.
Darwin all the way! It would have been interesting if Google, had rotated the logo throughout the day…to appease all parties…has this ever been done?

Darwin introduced his theories as a sort of joke little realising how much it would catch on. Everybody with a brain knows that God created all thigs and that the daft theories that Darwin suggested are nothing else but theories…….the result of the human mind left to itself while shutting God out! What the world isn’t so keen to tell us is that before he died, Charles Darwin learned the awful blunder he had made. On his death-bed he stated his wish to retract from his theory, emphasising that it was just that…….. theory! Unfortunately other people like Thomas Huxley sought to further Darwin’s notions and to-day we have millions of spiritually-blinded folk believing all his nonsensical heories to be fact when there is no proof whatever for what he suggested. it’s much easier to believe that in the beginning God created! But if I’m wrong, God will explain it all to me when I reach heaven? Sadly I don’t expect to meet Darwin there! Will you be there?
That’s a first for this type of blog – religion :) For me Darwin’s theory is exactly the same as the idea of God. A figment of human imagination and intelligence with a bit of heresay and theory thrown in and Darwin’s got more ‘proof’ to back his up than anyone who peddles a religion. I repect your right to a view of your own, just as you’ll have to respect my view of not giving a shit about religion of any type. If people treated everybody else with a bit of compassion and humanity we wouldn’t need any of it and we would all be better off. PS – Just because you believe in God probably doesn’t automatically get you into heaven – Jesus told me :)
