Be Number 1 in Google When You Launch New Site To The Public

Planning on launching a new site? But you won’t have it ready for months? STOP!

The first thing you should do is let the search engines know about your new website, especially if it won’t be ready to launch for months yet.

We are building brand new TEST sites with a new web address Zooogle, Festivalz & others at SEO TV and Costumes. Even though we don’t know exactly what we are putting on there yet, we have an idea, so we have put up a holding page, and told Google about it by, well, linking to the site from this article (yes, the link above).

Google visits this page often, and so will follow that link to find the new site.

Google and all the search engines are *thought* to place a great deal of trust in older domains, web addresses that they have “known” about for years. many even think a “sandbox” of aging filters exist to purposely keep new sites penetration in Google limited, for up to 8 months in my experience (especially if you over optimize a new site which I have in the past).

Even if you don’t know what exactly you want to do with your new site or the content it will hold, it’s always useful submit it to Google (and Yahoo and MSN) and let them know about it as soon as you know the web address yourself.

It might take 6 months for you to finish the site, but if Google has known about the domain for six months, it could well be easier for you to rank for keyword phrases when you actually do add content to it and launch it as complete.

Make sure you don’t make it spammy. Don’t overdo it when “optimizing” the page. Just simply tell Google a bit about the content you expect to have on the site and write naturally. A page doesn’t have to have a ton of text to rank well.

Then, all you need to get a link from a site with a page already in Google. Google will find that that link, and via that link, it will find your site. Get a quality link, from a quality site, not a crappy directory link.

There are of course different opinions on this matter, but that’s how we do it. And it seems to work for us. Note in the link above we used  “Zooogle” as anchor text for instance ;)

This is especially useful if you are launching a new brand, and need brand visibility as soon as the site is 100% ready for the public.

Of course another benefit of putting up a temporary holding page is that you can start building links to it from other websites, to help increase Google’s “trust” in the new website, while your developer is working night and day to finish the damn thing.

We’ve launched sites this way and when the client was actually ready to add content to the site, that holding page is ranking in Google for some keywords and the actual website had a Page Rank of PR 6 (if you’re interested in that sort of thing). And of course, when you searched for the brand, he was already at number 1 on Google on launch day.
